Newquay
Going there for a week shortly.

Do they have sandy beaches and saveloys?

Any recommendations/advice?

Holywell Bay & Watergate Bay have lovely beaches

Re: Newquay
Depends on what you fancy doing really.
The beach there is good but always rammed. I prefer Widemouth Bay or Constantine Bay for boarding and good rockpooling if you have kids.
Give Eden project a swerve if you have been there already, too many people.
If you are into wildlfe then the Screech owl sanctuary is fab. My son and I did a falconry morning there last year. The Seal Sanctuary at Gweek is pretty cool too.
Boscastle is great and if you like walking there are some great ones on Bodmin Moor; my fave is Garrow tour - you get a stone circle, King Arthur's hall and there are tumble down ancient stone dwellings all the way to the top (the walk from Boscastle to Tintagel is spectacular).
Watch the skies at night; Perseid meteor shower is on right now and will last a few days.
Have fun and drink beer.

Iron Duke is right too. A wetsuit makes a massive difference.

Porth

Fistral beach, though well known, gets a bid mad, in my experience. Best avoided. Still, a beautiful part of the world.

Dunno about saveloys.

Re: Newquay
Perranporth has a great beach and lots of caves for exploring.

Mawgan Porth just up the road from Watergate Bay, has the best fish and chip shop going (The Blue Fish bar). Beef dripping, triple cooked chips.

Re: Newquay
TM is right, those are beautiful spots he mentioned. Newquay itself is a bit to touristy these days, feels like its trying to hard to be Bondi.

Drive down to carbis bay.
Best beach down there is called pedn vounder near porthcurno. Almost like you’re in a different country.
Love Cornwall and getting a wetsuit ain’t a bad idea.

Try the quarrymen pub
Decent boozer
Rich and famous frequent there
As one of the other posters mentioned try carbis bay and when there bust st ives. However leave the car in Newquay or car is and get the bus train. The roads in st ives are very narrow

I found tyring to drive a Renault Espace round those narrow roads a tad tricky.

I think i left more of the car there than i brought hone, absolute nightmare but all my own fault.

Love Cornwall, currently in St Ives. loads of local food and booze. My favourite holiday spit in the UK.

Newquay is full of surfer tourists though.

Re: Newquay
I went there 25 years ago with the wife and 2 kids and stayed in the Headland Hotel I think it was.

Beautiful beaches but strong currents that are favoured by surfers. When I worked out the cost of one week with hotel, eating out and tourist things we stopped holidaying in UK and never have since...
